The King’s Parade have released their new video for current single Woman. The animated video features a lone female amongst a sea of larger anonymous figures in New York and highlights the negative attitudes and behaviour towards women in today’s society. It symbolises oppression and overcoming it.
“I see it every day and it never changes. It seems that it’s ingrained and that there’s just this biological barrier that we men can’t or won’t break down. The idea behind the chorus was to try and make the phrase “Like a Woman” celebratory and empowering, rather than derogatory or belittling. It conveys the strength and determination/force of a woman breaking through.
The opening verse depicts a magazine showing a model portraying how she is ‘meant to look’, something we’re all familiar with. The second verse focuses on the biological inequality, which all women have to face; time seems to be against them on almost every level. All of us in the band thought that it was important to voice how we feel and express our respect and admiration for women everywhere. Hopefully it will ring true for everybody who hears it.” – Olly Corpe (vocals)
In light of the new video release the band have also just been shortlisted for the UMA Choice Award at the upcoming Unsigned Music Awards 2018.
